There is something incredibly special about wearing the Maple Leaf and hearing the Canadian national anthem while representing your country on the world stage. It is the moment every competitive athlete works toward through years of dedication and sacrifice.
For Sky, that once in a lifetime moment is now within reach.
Today we are proud to officially launch Sky’s fundraising campaign as she prepares to represent Team Canada Dance at the IDO Hip Hop World Championships in Poland.
Sky was selected to represent Team Canada Dance in three categories: Large Group, Small Group, and Duo. This opportunity is the result of years of dedication, hard work, and passion for dance.
A year ago, the incredible support of our family, friends, and community helped Sky take an important step forward in her dance journey, and we remain deeply grateful for the encouragement and generosity that made it possible.
That support helped make it possible for Sky to attend the Hollywood Summer Tour, an experience that meant so much to her and helped shape the dancer and performer she continues to grow into today, opening doors we never could have imagined.
We are also incredibly grateful to Sky’s studio, BSOBAD, for the incredible environment they create for their dancers. The coaches, choreographers, and mentors there have supported and encouraged Sky throughout her journey.
With the support she received to attend the Hollywood Summer Tour and the guidance of her studio BSOBAD, Sky has continued to grow and develop as a dancer. Because of that support and years of dedication to her training, she has now earned the opportunity to represent Canada on the international stage, a dream she has worked incredibly hard to achieve.
The Cost of the Journey
Opportunities like this are incredibly special, but representing Canada on the world stage also comes with significant costs.
Because dance is not currently recognized as a funded sport in Canada, athletes selected to represent Team Canada Dance are responsible for covering their own travel and competition expenses, making this opportunity entirely self funded.
Competitive dance requires an extraordinary level of athleticism. Dancers train for hours each week building strength, endurance, flexibility, and precision comparable to many high performance sports.
Travel, accommodations, training, and competition fees are expected to total approximately $14,000, including international travel to Poland and trips to Vancouver where Team Canada Dance rehearsals take place.
All funds raised will go directly toward helping Sky cover the travel, training, and competition expenses required to compete at the World Championships.
Business Sponsorship Opportunities
Local businesses have the opportunity to help send a Team Canada Dance athlete from Saskatoon to the World Championships while gaining positive community recognition.
Businesses that partner with Sky will be highlighted as supporters helping a Saskatoon athlete represent Team Canada Dance internationally, and will receive an official non profit receipt that may be used as an advertising or marketing expense.
Businesses that partner with us will receive:
• Recognition on both our social media and Team Canada Dance social media
• Acknowledgment on fundraising materials and events
• Showcasing throughout Sky’s journey to Poland
• An official non profit receipt
Supporting Sky is a meaningful way to help a young athlete chase her dream while also showing your business’s support for local athletes and the Saskatoon community.
️ The 14,000 km Journey to Poland (Round Trip)
The distance from Saskatoon to Poland and back is roughly 14,000 km, and we are inviting our family, friends, and community to help Sky travel every kilometer of that journey together.
You can sponsor part of the journey:
- $100 = 100 km
- $50 = 50 km
- $20 = 20 km
- $10 = 10 km
- $500 = Sponsor 500 km of Sky’s journey
Every kilometer sponsored helps move Sky closer to representing Canada on the world stage.
Our goal is to travel the full 14,000 km together, and we will share updates along the way showing how far our community has helped move Sky toward Poland.
️ Additional Fundraisers
Over the coming months we will also be hosting several community fundraisers as part of Sky’s journey to Poland, with this GoFundMe serving as our fundraising home base.
Some of the events we will be running include:
- Bottle drives
- Pick a number games
- BBQ fundraisers
- ☕ Personally branded coffee sales
- ️ Silent auction
If any local businesses would like to contribute items or services for the silent auction, we would be incredibly grateful and would love to highlight your support as part of Sky’s journey to represent Team Canada Dance.
Other Ways to Donate
If you would prefer not to donate through GoFundMe, you can also support Sky directly by sending an e transfer to:
garettandamanda at gmail.com
Since Sky will be traveling to Vancouver for practices and rehearsals with Team Canada Dance, airline travel points ✈️ that could be contributed toward flights would make a meaningful difference in helping reduce those travel costs.
Thank You
If you are able to contribute, we are incredibly grateful.
If donating is not possible, sharing this page means just as much to us.
Thank you for continuing to support Sky’s dreams and for being part of this journey with our family.
Every bit of encouragement helps bring her one step closer to wearing the Maple Leaf and hearing the Canadian national anthem while representing Canada on the world stage.
