Help Siv Recover

Sivchristen- life of the party and the sweetest darling you’ll ever meet.

Sivchristen often addresses herself as Siv, but even then some people won’t get her name. In our family, she goes by Christina. Whether you know her by Siv or Christina, you won’t forget her. She’ll walk into a room with her stunning presence and not only catch your eye- she’s the most cheerful and jolly person in the room. Anyone who meets Siv can attest to this.

It was just yesterday, I lay in bed with insomnia, doodling an image of my sister eating a big bowl of food. I stated it was her birthday week when I shared the picture on social media, and of course just moments after seeing the portrait, she shares with me a picture of her giant bowl of chicken ramen made for someone twice her size. She’s my person I go to when I’m feeling down. She’s the person I bring to any function. She’s just naturally lovable and I don’t have to tell you. The moment you meet her you just know.

Last night I received a startling phone call from her boyfriend, Wil. It was out of the blue. The only time I ever really contacted him was to send him goofy videos of my sis doing silly things, or if she accidentally locks herself out the house...

This call was different. Siv wasn’t well. And she isn’t well as we speak. She had been swimming yesterday in Cancun and not even moments later, Wil checked up on Siv. Her body was  still, and lifeless. He had found her floating there, unable to breathe. She had suffered from cardiac arrest. At this point, he needed to call the ambulance.

He rushed her to the emergency room where they immediately cared for her. She is still unconscious at this point. After waiting to hear from results from the doctor and moving her to into the ICU Wil contacted me and the family to tell us this news. We are all still in shock...

They did a scan of her brain and it was swollen. When they put in the catheter to her heart she also got pneumothorax (air in the cavity that holds the lungs) it causes the lung to collapse. (They ran other tests and ruled out she is COVID-19 free.)

While they were able to get the air out her lungs, she is still in critical condition. We are still awaiting results as we speak and she would eventually have to be moved to a hospital in the US.

Right now, her medical insurance isn’t able to cover all the expenses. She cannot stay at the general hospital for much longer. We are grateful of the help of Wil and family. From hospital fees, emergency fees, and flying her to the US through air medic, her expenses are quite high. This has already cost several thousands out of pocket and still counting.

I feel this is our attempt to help Siv when she needs it most.  This is the last thing I wanted to hear with such a crazy year. On November 19th, it will be her 30th birthday. My wish for Siv is to be home safe and fully recovered. Any amount is appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
