hi everyone!
I am programmed to be ashamed and adverse to asking for help but it's time 2 unlearn allat because finding help and access to healthcare should not be this hard.
For those of you who don't know me, I am a dominican nonbinary(they/them) expressionist, Brooklyn based, made in uptown.
I have been battling some pretty debilitating depression for a couple of months now that has been really peaking in the last month and am seeking help through both holistic therapy and medication management. It's been really hard to find a therapist under my insurance who is taking new patients, and affirming of my identities; impossible finding that and someone who represents them. everyone is really going through it, so all the really accessible centers I know of I've contacted have had a much higher volume of new people coming in, with month(s) long waiting times,I found a trauma informed therapist that represents me, that runs on a sliding scale, a weekly hour session being $60, and a psychiatrist under my insurance with a copay for sessions + medication is $80, both with availability .Unemployment + my art sales are not enough for me to sustainably afford these services so I'm asking for y'all to help me in funding sessions from both these practices from October2020 -march 2021, which ends up being $2200.

we deserve affordable mental health resources that represent us. that does not pathologize or explain away our experiences. that respects every part of us. the obstacle course it has been to find someone that fits these prerequisites is what affirms me not to feel shame for asking for help.
