Hi my name is Janel Gonzalez, I am 26 years old, a single mother, and I have a medical condition called fibroadenoma. I’ve endured this for 7 years now. My body is prone to growing tumors in my breast tissue. In most cases they are usually benign. I’ve had to undergo several ultrasounds, biopsies, and two surgeries over the years. It has caused issues for me and many difficulties. From easily getting sick with mastitis while breastfeeding my child for 2 years to being in chronic pain and several urgent care visits.

Currently, I have a rare high-risk lesion actively growing in my breast since December 2019. It was labeled as high risk on December 2020 and biopsied on January 2021. After 27 doctor appointments within this past year, waitlisted for almost half a year, I am now scheduled for surgery on August 13th. There will be two surgeons simultaneously working with me to remove two tumors and reconstruction. The goal is to remove and reduce enough tissue to prevent more tumors from growing in the future. It’s a very serious surgery however it’s very necessary for my health and well-being. The removal will determine if the high risk lesion would be malignant or benign.

There is an estimate timeframe of 3-4 weeks bedrest with post recovery. It all depends how my body responds and could possibly be longer.

I have had several difficult conversations with doctors of all kinds regarding my condition and it’s physically taken a toll on my body. I have been told that I am more higher risk to developing breast cancer, to eventually leading to a mastectomy and more complications as I get older.

I have created this GoFundMe because I’ve decided it’s time I share my story and bring awareness. If donating, you would not only be helping me but my 5 yr old daughter, Sasha. With the post surgery recovery I am still in need for financially providing funds for the following:

• baby sitter services
• caregiver services for myself
• post recovery prep meals and snacks
• my surgery expenses/ medication
• post recovery treatment such as acupuncture
• utility bills
• rent

While undergoing post-surgery recovery, I will be on medical leave for work and not guaranteed my full salary pay. These funds will help go towards my rent and bills till I am fully able to return back to work.

I have been undergoing this by myself and it’s time I finally ask for help. I am realizing more and more throughout this whole process that life is too short and so precious.
