Hurricane Melissa has left behind heartbreaking damage across many communities but for one single mother, the impact has been truly devastating. Her home, which was her only place of safety and comfort, was torn apart by the storm. The entire roof was ripped away, leaving her and her 5 year old child forced to stay with relatives and kind community members, as their home remains unlivable. To date, no repairs have been done to the roof, leaving them without a safe place of their own to return to. Living from place to place has been emotionally and physically exhausting, and the uncertainty has made it difficult for them to regain stability and normalcy.

As you can see from the photos, the roof is completely gone. The family is now struggling to stay dry, secure their belongings, and simply feel safe again.

This mother has always worked hard to take care of her family, and despite her challenges, she remains strong. But this disaster is more than any one person can face alone. *
