My name is Simone Wells, and I am raising funds to help my family secure safe and suitable housing after we were given just 28 days to leave our home.
This is not a story I ever imagined telling.
For years, my daughter, Rachel Wells, has helped millions of people prepare for the future of work. As a Senior Forbes contributor, founder of Work 2.0, journalist, and AI entrepreneur, she has interviewed some of the world's leading voices in artificial intelligence, leadership, and the future of work. Her work has generated 67 million cumulative views, and she has spent years explaining how technology is transforming careers.
Then that same transformation reached our own family.
As AI-generated search summaries changed how people consume information online, readership across digital publishing changed dramatically. Rachel experienced a severe decline in the traffic reaching her work, and the income our household depended on fell with it. She describes this in her upcoming BBC interview as the moment she realised she could no longer afford the rent, despite continuing to work every day.
We did not give up.
Rachel continued writing for Forbes, searched for employment, delivered AI training, developed Work 2.0, built an AI startup for journalists, pursued partnerships, met with organisations and universities, and explored every opportunity to rebuild our income. We also worked with our landlord, sought government support, reduced our spending, and used the savings we had built over previous years. Despite all of those efforts, our rent arrears continued to grow, and on 13 July the court granted a possession order requiring us to leave our home by 10 August.
Our family consists of three people.
I work alongside Rachel as Chief Marketing Officer for Work 2.0, supporting marketing, partnerships, and audience growth. I also home educate my 13-year-old son, a grade 8 violinist, who is a student of The Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and is studying towards his GCSEs and recently reached the final stage of an audition for Future Talent at the Royal Academy of Music. Music is far more than a hobby for him. It is his calling, and he needs a stable home where he can continue practising, studying, and developing during one of the most important stages of his education.
Although we are facing a housing crisis, we have not stopped building.
Rachel continues to write, speak, and develop new opportunities. She is expanding Work 2.0 into enterprise partnerships, building technology that helps journalists work more effectively, and continuing to advocate for people navigating the changing world of work. We believe this difficult season will become part of a much bigger story, but right now we need the stability to keep moving forward.
We are seeking to raise £35,000 to help cover:
Rent arrears and court costs
A deposit and rent in advance for a new home
Removal costs and relocation expenses
Temporary accommodation if required
Essential furniture and household items so we can start again
If you are able to help financially, we would be deeply grateful.
If you are unable to donate, you can still make an enormous difference by sharing this fundraiser with your network, introducing Rachel to organisations looking for speakers, consultants, or future-of-work expertise, or simply keeping our family in your prayers.
For most of our lives, we have solved challenges by working hard, creating opportunities, and helping others do the same. This is the first time we have needed to ask our wider community to help carry us through a season we cannot overcome alone.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
Your kindness gives our family more than financial support.
It gives us the chance to rebuild.
