Simon had his surgery today!

He’s doing very well and resting comfortably. In two weeks, he’ll return to the vet to have his stitches removed. The best news of all — he’s expected to make a full recovery and live a life with clear sight and no more pain.

Simon was rescued from the county shelter in Downey just in time—he was scheduled to be euthanized. We believe he may have been dumped by his owner because of his painful eye condition.

Simon suffers from entropion, a condition where the eyelid rolls inward and the fur constantly rubs against the cornea. It is extremely painful and causes ongoing irritation. He needs surgery on both eyes. Without treatment, the condition will continue to damage his eyes and could lead to permanent blindness.

When we brought Simon to the vet, we also discovered he has an ear infection. The good news is that it should heal within about two weeks with medication. The difficult part is that the eye surgery he urgently needs is very expensive.

We are actively searching for a more affordable veterinary option, but we have started fundraising because Simon cannot wait much longer to get the surgery he needs.

Simon has already survived being abandoned and nearly losing his life at the shelter. Now he just needs a little help from compassionate people to give him the pain-free life he deserves.
