Help Simon Rebuild His Life After Devastating Illness

Donation protected
We are Simon’s family and friends, and we are raising funds to support him as he adjusts to life after a devastating and life-changing series of illnesses.

In June 2023, what began as a mountain bike accident and a broken pelvis quickly turned into something far more serious. Just weeks later, Simon became critically unwell and was rushed into hospital with dangerously low potassium levels, leading to a prolonged stay in intensive care.

Since then, Simon has faced an unimaginable journey — battling sepsis, pneumonia, and multiple severe infections affecting his hips, spine, and body. These infections caused abscesses and nerve damage, leaving him initially bed-bound. During this time, he also suffered a major bleed requiring blood transfusions, and further scans revealed a brain tumour.

Although Simon underwent surgery in August 2024, not all of the tumour could be removed due to its position on his optic nerves. Sadly, the tumour has since regrown, leaving Simon partially sighted, with no vision in his left eye and limited vision in his right.

In November 2025, Simon was admitted to hospital once again in a critical condition. Following further infections and complications affecting his spine and even his heart, Simon has now been diagnosed as paralysed from the waist down, with doctors confirming he will not walk again.

Despite everything he has been through, Simon continues to fight with incredible strength and determination. He is a devoted husband, family man, and someone who brings warmth, humour, and kindness to everyone around him — and he’s also a bit of a whizz in the kitchen.

This is so important to us because we want to give Simon the best possible quality of life and help him regain as much independence as possible. When he is able to return home, significant adaptations will be needed, including a ground floor bedroom, a fully accessible wet room, and making the home and garden wheelchair accessible. We are also hoping to adapt the kitchen so Simon can get back to doing something he loves — cooking again.

Simon’s incredible wife, Shell, has been by his side every step of the way, showing unwavering strength, love, and resilience. She is not only navigating this life-changing situation alongside Simon, but is also quietly managing her own health challenges, which makes the road ahead even more difficult. Despite this, she continues to be his biggest support.

Funds will also go towards specialist equipment to support Simon’s day-to-day care and rehabilitation, and to help ease the pressures on the family as they adjust to this new way of life.

Over the past two and a half years, family and friends have supported us in every way they can, but the reality is that the costs ahead are far beyond what we can manage alone.

Every donation, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference and help Simon and our family begin to rebuild our lives. Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
