Help Simon Get a Reliable Car for School

Hello all! It feels unreal and heartbreaking to even be typing this, but my name is Erin Oberle, and Kara (Karode) Dooley was one of my best friends. Unfortunately and unexpectedly, Kara passed away on June 14th, 2025, and we are all still reeling from the loss, especially her family and son, Simon. Anyone who knew her, knows how much she adored her Simon (aka Lemon, Lem, Si). He is an awesome kid, active in band, and is about to begin his senior year of high-school. He’s been driving Kara’s older car since getting his license, and while it’s been having mechanical problems for some time, it has now gotten to the point that he can no longer drive it. Since he is a minor at age 17, he is living with his maternal grandfather, and will soon be commuting to school from Cary to Clayton (30+ miles one way), therefore a reliable vehicle is essential. Many of Kara’s friends have asked to help, so I’ve created this GoFundMe with permission from her family to help Simon. The family would like to iterate that there is no obligation for anyone to donate, but, because so many have been asking, they’ve decided to open up the possibility for those who wish to. We all know how strong and independent Kara was, but she would be beaming with pride and joy to know that her village has stepped up for Simon in her absence.
