Silvia Ramirez needs our help while she undergoes open heart surgery and is unable to work for at least eight weeks.

After experiencing shortness of breath and tightness in her chest, Silvia went to urgent care the morning of August 8. The doctor recommended she go directly to the emergency room where she was admitted immediately and diagnosed with a Heart Vegetation, an infection of the heart, specifically in the valves of her heart.

In the next five to fourteen days, Silvia is expected to undergo open heart surgery, where they will replace the valves of her heart.

Silvia is an amazing person. She is in the end stages of earning a Master's degree in History at Cal State San Marcos, she works as an archivist at a local historical society, and she is loved by everyone around her because of her acts of selflessness and her ability to make everyone laugh with her witty humor.

Between the surgery and her recovery, Silvia will be out of work for a minimum of eight weeks. We have created this GoFundMe to help pay for her medical and home expenses and alleviate some of her stress. She deserves to focus more on her health than on her bills.

UPDATE:

Silvia’s open heart surgery on August 22 was a success!

While one valve had the infection the other valve had congenital issue, it was assumed at least one, if not both valves would have to be replaced. Luckily, both valves were able to be repaired! The valve that is congenital will not have to be replaced for another 15 to 20 years.

Silvia has been released from the hospital and is healing at home under the care of her sister, Marina.
