In September, just shy of her 36th Birthday, my wife Silvia was diagnosed with Advanced Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer that also spread to her Liver. This diagnosis has been devastating for our family and especially since Silvia is a previous Cancer survivor of Ovarian Cancer at age 14 and Kidney Cancer at age 28 and she beat them both! Silvia is the most beautiful person I have ever had the privilege of knowing and to see her suffer from this has been heartbreaking. Silvia and I have a 2 and a half year old son named David. There is nothing in this world she would enjoy more than to watch David grow up, be there for every milestone and see him experience all the world has to offer. Silvia has been fighting as hard as she can to beat this and staying incredibly positive. The prayers, support, and compassion she has received thus far has been nothing short of amazing.
Silvia has been receiving care for her cancer at the UCSD Moores Cancer Center. Silvia has been willing and enthusiastic to look into any additional methods to beat this cancer. Silvia has been in consistent, intense pain for months now and we have been trying to find every possible way to make her feel more comfortable. She has numerous appointments and hospital visits every week. Due to her pain and receiving chemotherapy, Silvia was unable to continue working at her job at Chula Vista Elementary School District where she has worked for the past 15 years with Special needs children. She most recently worked with creating and implementing learning materials for children who are visually impaired. Silvia has been doing an excellent job being present and engaged with our son David even through her excruciating pain. We are fortunate to have great childcare for David and family close by to assist us. I’m so proud of Silvia, watching her be the best Mother, daughter, sister, and friend while going through such a turbulent time.
While my health insurance has helped tremendously, there are many unforeseen costs that are mounting. In addition to chemotherapy, she has been pursuing alternative treatments that have led to additional mounting expenses. The co-payments alone for the numerous medications she is required to take is amounting to a small fortune. We’ve been cutting expenses all around to help. Due to my military service, it makes it quite difficult for me to take on additional work.

En septiembre, poco antes de cumplir 36 años, a mi esposa Silvia le diagnosticaron cáncer de páncreas en etapa avanzada (Etapa 4), el cual también se ha propagado a su hígado. Este diagnóstico ha sido devastador para nuestra familia, especialmente porque Silvia ya es sobreviviente de cáncer en dos ocasiones: venció el cáncer de ovario a los 14 años y el cáncer de riñón a los 28. ¡Superó ambas batallas!
Silvia es la persona más hermosa que he tenido el privilegio de conocer, y verla sufrir de esta manera ha sido verdaderamente desgarrador. Silvia y yo tenemos un hijo de dos años y medio llamado David. No hay nada en este mundo que ella desearía más que verlo crecer, estar presente en cada logro y acompañarlo mientras descubre todo lo que la vida tiene para ofrecer. Silvia ha estado luchando con todas sus fuerzas contra esta enfermedad y se ha mantenido increíblemente positiva. Las oraciones, el apoyo y la compasión que ha recibido hasta ahora han sido simplemente increíbles.
Silvia ha estado recibiendo atención médica en el UCSD Moores Cancer Center. Siempre ha mostrado disposición y entusiasmo por explorar cualquier método adicional que pueda ayudarla a vencer este cáncer. Aun así, Silvia ha hecho un trabajo extraordinario manteniéndose presente y comprometida con nuestro hijo David, incluso en medio de un dolor insoportable. Somos afortunados de contar con un excelente cuidado infantil para David y con familiares cercanos que nos apoyan. Me siento inmensamente orgulloso de Silvia al verla ser la mejor mamá, esposa, hija, hermana y amiga, incluso en un momento tan difícil y turbulento.
Aunque mi seguro médico ha sido de gran ayuda, hay muchos gastos imprevistos que continúan acumulándose. Además de la quimioterapia, Silvia ha estado buscando tratamientos alternativos que han generado gastos adicionales significativos. Solo los copagos de los numerosos medicamentos que debe tomar representan una suma considerable. Hemos reducido gastos en todos los aspectos posibles. Debido a mi servicio militar, me resulta muy difícil asumir trabajo adicional.
