Help Silla perform in Greenland

Donation protected

Silla is an Inuit throat singing duo consisting of myself (Charlotte Qamaniq) and Cynthia Pitsiulak. We are traveling from Iqaluit and Ottawa, Canada to Sisimiut, Greenland to work on two very exciting projects but we need your help to pull it off.

First we will be attending the annual Arctic Sounds music festival which showcases original artists from Nordic countries as well as artists from across Inuit Nunaat. It’s important for us to bring throat singing to our relatives in Greenland and cultural exchanges are an opportunity to learn from one-another and help our peoples strengthen our cultural identities.

Second, we will be planning logistics for a performance called EarthSonic on the Russell Glacier next year near Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. EarthSonic is a global project, organized by UK charity organization In Place of War , that tells the story of climate change through music. In late 2023 we recorded with members from the EarthSonic team and those recordings are being composed into a piece of music that we will perform and stream live from the glacier in 2025.

As Inuit, we are affected by climate change more than any other people as our homelands across the arctic are warming much faster than the rest of the planet . EarthSonic is an opportunity to showcase our culture and send a message to the world that radical climate action is necessary to maintain Inuit way of life as we know it and have known it for thousands of years.

We are incredibly grateful to have received financial support from Canada Council for the Arts to complete this project but we need additional funding to help us cover the prohibitively expensive costs associated with traveling to a remote Arctic community like Sisimiut.

We are asking for your help in raising $5000 which will go entirely towards costs associated with travel (flights and accommodations). We appreciate any and all support.
