Silas was born June 9th weighing 1 pound 8.5 oz, he has spent almost 9 months in the Nicu growing and battling Chronic lung disease, or known as Bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Silas is recovering from a tracheotomy after the doctors have found pretty severe tracheo/bronchomalacia. A gastrostomy so Silas can receive his feeds & medication through, & an anti Acid reflux surgery.
After speaking with the team who specifically handles children with CLD, they have stated Silas has one of the worst cases they have seen. They have also stated we will most likely not be home until after his 1 year in June.
Due to his chronic lung disease he is also experiencing extreme pulmonary hypertension. After an echo recently checking the hypertension they have discovered blood clots in Silas’s inferior vena cava.
Silas's extended hospital stay has made balancing work and bills tough. In the coming months, we'll mostly be in Nashville, taking classes to learn how to care for him. We'll also be modifying his nursery for his special needs. It is very crucial that both Dad & I can be with Silas during this time to learn how to care for him, it takes a team! We're reaching out for donations to support us during this time, covering travel expenses from Johnson City to Nashville, and meals while we're there.
When we come Silas will require 24 hour care, provided by mom & dad. We will learn cpr for Silas, learn to bag him, learn do all of his trach care, something even as small as riding in the car requires two people in case of emergency.
