Hi there, we're Jess and Kyle and we're here to hopefully raise money for our pup Sif.
The Why:
Sif is a Belgian Malinois mix who was recently diagnosed with stage 3 anal gland adenocarcinoma. Anal gland adenocarcinoma (AGA) (also known as apocrine gland anal sac carcinoma adenocarcinoma or anal sac adenocarcinoma) is an uncommon cancer that arises from the apocrine glands in the walls of the anal sacs. This cancer tends to be highly invasive within the tissues surrounding the tumor and also has a tendency to metastasize. If not caught early, this can be a death sentence.
Even though it's at stage 3 based purely on size, after a CT scan, x-rays, and lots of bloodwork it was determined to have not spread to any location except one sublumbar lymph node, and she does not have signs of hypercalcemia. This means that Sif has a wonderful chance to recover completely and live a healthy life after surgery and chemo. Unfortunately, surgery and chemo are really expensive. She would recover with chemo only, but the cancer would most likely return in a year to a year and a half and then she would need more chemo, and so on through the rest of her life. Adding in surgery means that we're completely removing the cancerous growth and the chemo after will kill any remaining cancer cells. A definite survival advantage was seen in patients whose treatment protocols included surgery. If there was a high chance that her quality of life wouldn't be the same after, this wouldn't be the choice we'd make. Our main care is for her, and that she have the best life she can and this gives that to her. The costs for the tests so far has been upwards of $4000, and we're looking at another 9-10k easily with the surgery and chemo. All funds will go towards her surgery, chemo, and any other vet related expenses. Anything left after this will be donated to the rescue we got her from. We have surgery scheduled for mid-July (the soonest we could get) and are on a waiting list for anything sooner. Time is of the essence with this cancer.
The Who:
Sif is our girl, a Belgian Malinois mix. We aren't sure what she's mixed with, but she's all Malinois with her attitude. She loves to work, to have a job to do (she loves nosework!), and is the keeper of the house. We adopted her at 8 months when our other dog was showing serious signs of separation anxiety, and he's the one who picked her when we stopped by chance at a Petco that was having an adoption. We met a few dogs that day, but when she was taken back to her crate he followed and laid next to her, so we knew we had to bring her home. She's the protector moreso than her brother, and needs to know where and how everyone is at all times. She's also my ESA, and alerts me before I have panic attacks. She never leaves my side when I'm sick or feeling down, and is just all around the best girl. It hasn't been an easy road owning a Mal mix, but I wouldn't change any of it for the world, because she is my world. Being brutally honest, we can't imagine my life without her. She's loving, intuitive, sweet (when she's not barking at the neighbors for being in their pool, lol), and protective. She loves her toy ostrich, telling on her brother when he's being bad, chasing water, pup cups, chicken, going for rides and her brother Neltharion.
If you can donate, we'd greatly appreciate it. If not, we understand because times are pretty rough lately for people and all we'd ask is for good vibes sent her way! Thanks for your time, and for reading my very lengthy explanation. Below are a few more photos of Sif for everyone to enjoy.
