After Hurricane Lala, Sierra’s dad lost cell service and could not access medication from his nearby pharmacy. Because he is diabetic and had gone several days without insulin, Sierra knew something was very wrong after not hearing from him. With the help of kind people who were able to do a wellness check, Sierra’s dad was found in a diabetic emergency with dangerously high blood sugar and was rushed to the hospital for lifesaving care.

Since the storm, his health has continued to be fragile. He later suffered another emergency, and doctors said he had a minor stroke. He has now been discharged after another hospital stay, but he is facing overwhelming medical bills while also trying to recover from damage at home. His water catchment tank and water pump need repairs, and these are essential systems for daily life. While Sierra is grateful that the home was not completely flooded like many others nearby, the financial strain has continued to grow.
