Hi friends,
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been accepted into the Orion Environmental Writers’ Workshop in New York this summer—an incredible opportunity to grow as a writer, connect with other storytellers, and learn from some of the most respected voices in environmental literature.
This application-only workshop is hosted by Orion Magazine and the Omega Center for Sustainable Living. It brings together a community of writers, artists, and editors to deepen our relationship with place and refine how we tell stories about nature and the environment. I’ve been selected to work closely with Chris La Tray, a Métis author whose work (Becoming Little Shell) has inspired me deeply.
As someone who is just beginning their writing journey, being accepted into this workshop is both humbling and exciting. I want to explore where storytelling can take me—not just for myself, but for the Indigenous communities I belong to and represent. I believe our stories, our love of the land, and our lived experiences deserve space in the broader environmental narrative.
To attend, I need help covering the costs of lodging and the participation fee. Any contribution, no matter the size, will go directly toward making this opportunity possible.
Your support will help me take this next step in finding my voice and creating space for other Indigenous storytellers.
Thank you so much for believing in this journey with me.
With gratitude,
Sierra Pete
