Hi everyone
My name is Sierra and I’m 23 years old. I was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, and am permanently wheelchair bound.
Right now, I’m on the waiting list for my very first apartment and approved and on a waitlist for my own service dog as well— something I’ve dreamed about for a very long time. This will be my first opportunity to truly live independently and build a life of my own. While that is incredibly exciting, it’s also a little scary, because everyday tasks that many people don’t think about can be difficult for me on my own.
That’s why I’m hoping to receive a service dog through Canine Angels Service Teams here in Applegate, Oregon.
A service dog would make such a huge difference in my daily life and independence. They can help me pick up dropped items, open doors, assist with everyday tasks, alert for help if needed, and also assist me outdoors while giving me more confidence navigating life on my own.
As I prepare to move into my first apartment, having a service dog beside me would not only help me physically, but also give me comfort, security, and companionship as I take this huge step forward.
The cost of obtaining and training a service dog is more than I can manage alone, so I’m reaching out and asking for help. The company charges $3500 for training and for me to get matched with a dog. Every donation — no matter how small — brings me closer to greater independence and a better quality of life.
