Help Sick Parents Move

To begin, I would like to tell you a little of my mothers story.  Approximately ten years ago my mother had massive pain in her back.  The doctors said that back surgery would be the best remedy for my mother.  The surgery was successful.  However, my mother started to feel pain in her back again.  This was different than before.  The doctors said her body was reject the screw.  The insurance company denied the claim for her to have the screw removed because the surgery was successful.  So the answer, give her pain medications to manage the pain.  Before you knew it, my mom was taking a ton of medication and she was very addicted.  The medication took a huge toll on her body.  Soon she started to have problems with her colon and large intestine.  She was getting massive fistulas.  The doctor told my mom she would need to have an ileostomy.  My mom struggled with this, but eventually she had the surgery.  She did wonderful with this option for a couple of years, until she started to loose weight rapidly.  She had other problems here and there, but she was doing good.  When she went to the doctor, she was informed that she needed to have the ileostomy reversed because she had developed dumping sydrome.  Her body was fighting for nutrients.  She went and had the reversal.  While in the hospital, her doctor had an emergency and had to leave on family business.  She developed a massive infection.  There is a huge story behind all of this, but that is for a different day.  The doctor on call decided in an emergency surgery to reverse the procedure once again.  However, when her doctor came back, he once again did another surgery to do a reversal because of the dumping syndrome.  This all took place within a few weeks.  After these surgeries my mother would for years spend more time in the hopsital than at home.  Her stomach never healed.  She would get fistula after fistula.  At one time she had a total of eight holes in her stomach.  Her quality of life dismished.  Her home, was mostly a hospital.  Eventually her doctor gave up on her since the insurance company started to complain that she was there past visits.  This could not be helped due to her condition.  He just refused when the hospital called to transfer her.  My mother was going to die unless we got her to the Mayo clinic in Arizona.  We got her out there for a consult where the doctor was amazed by her condition.  He admitted  her immediatley.  They got her the surgery she needed.  The doctor told us if she would not have had that surgery she would have been deceased with in the next couple of months.  Her fight was not over.  My mom lost most of her stomach.  She has part of her small intestine left.  She will be on TPN (a liquid form of food that goes into a port in her chest) for the rest of her life.  She was very weak when she left the hospital, however has fought to recover.  Around Christmas time she ended up back in the hospital fighting infections that come with the TPN.  She will be prone to these infections for the rest of her life.  She ended up in the hospital 3 more times when her health took another dive.  In Feburary of this year, my brother and I went down to New Mexico to take my mom off of the life support that was helping her to breath.  While being in the hospital during this stint she had coded twice, she had been intubated three times and had ice baths to bring down the dangerous high fevers.  The doctors did not expect my mother to survive.  She did!!!  After this visit, it came apparent that my parents needed to be closer to me.  They need help.  My father struggles with dementia.  They need to be watched over to make sure they make the appointments that are needed.  They need help getting the home cleaned and food.  I dont know how much time I  have with them both.  However, if we dont get them the help that they need, it may be shorter than ever imagined.  They need to be in a place where healthcare is amazing.  This is not only about getting medical bills paid off, but also helping them move to Colorado.  I am a single mom and I am trying to figure out how to do this on the income I have.  Moving is not cheap and either is medical.  I want to help take care of my family.  That is what a daughter does.  But I can not do this on my own and I am reaching out for help.  Both of my parents served in the military for their country.  My dad was in for 26 years of service.  Now they need help.
