Help Shristi Build Her Dream Shelter In Allahabad
Donation protected
** Hi, My name is Jan and I live in the UK. I have helped Shristi to compile this campaign as it is not available directly in India. All funds raised will go into a UK bank account and be transferred directly into the Rescue's Bank account called "Animal Feeders Of Allahabad". The progress of the campaign will be shared on all the social platforms Shristi utilises, and updates posted at least 3 times weekly detailing the the progress of the campaign made possible only by donations of kind people like you!
Please take a few minutes to read her story, she works incredibly hard every day, tirelessly, making herself sick, being verbally and physically abused by people who don't care about street dogs or abandoned domestic cattle, and quite frankly could care less if they were killed on the roads or poisoned deliberately for making noise, or defecating outside properties. Her workload is so intense now, and she feeds 350+ dogs in her feeding runs twice daily plus cattle, she has had to employ a male Bhaiya (helper) to cope with demand. In addition to feed, they also carry om-spot medical treatment for fleas, tick, mange, open skin wounds that have become infected, and for cattle treatment of lumpy skin disease. Her situation is made more difficult with being a single woman trying to work alone, as India is a patriarchal society, so attempts by single unmarried women to make a difference to the Status Quo is so difficult. Shristi is one of a growing number of young people trying to save and improve the lives of animals across India, Will you PLEASE, PLEASE read her story, and if possible make a donation? No matter how small, it really will make a world of difference to her campaign, and make such a positive difference in the daily lives of these animals. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!"
Hello, my name is Shristi Mistra and I run an independent street resue and feeding programme for dogs, cats, goats, donkeys, cows & their unwanted young & aging bulls. The large farm animals are being abandoned in growing numbers by callous farmers who can no longer profit from them and discard them. Bull calves are discarded as they only desire females for milk production. In a country where our religion teaches us to respect and worship these animals I see increasing numbers weekly of deaths and horrific injuries caused by them being hit by vehicles on busy roads and left to die.
I have been running my rescue called Animal Feeders for many years now, and have Bhaiyas(Helpers) to help with the increasing workload as it is a 7 day non-stop commitment in all weathers and seasons. Over 350 dogs daily are feed twice daily in our feeding areas plus 50-60 cattle, whose numbers grow weekly. We ensure these voiceless souls under our care and protection receive not only nourishing food, but also on the spot care for medical needs against fleas, lice, skin mange conditions, in cattle - lumpy skin disease is treated, and in severe cases our vet will treat on the streets too. I urgently need to build a Protective Shelter for these poor defenceless animals who are getting injured, being attacked by humans when they sleep at night, become sick, pregnant and have nowhere safe to feed and lactate with their infants & increase our street sterilization and return programme to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies in street dogs.
I was able to identify a wonderful plot of land suitable for a Shelter some 8km outside Allahabad, in Madhavpur, and have secured a 10 year lease on the property. Now the really HARD WORK begins!!!
Due to the kindness and good heartedness of my family and a few core donors I have already been able to pay the rent for the first 6 months and erect perimeter fencing, concrete poles and an entrance to the site, along with snow fencing to ensure privacy & security for the Shelter, workers/ volunteers and of course, our most important occupants - our beloved animals!
The pictures above show the builders erecting the first lines of many of perimeter concrete posts at the Shelter!!
My Dream and Vision is to build and run a shelter not just for sick and disabled street dogs who are unable to return to the street once we have healed their injuries, or made them well, but also to give a life-long home to many who are disabled and unable to live on the streets and give them a life full of love, security and safety, where scavenging, being scared, and fighting for survival are a distant memory. Those released back to the streets will be under our street feeding programme and permanently taken care of. It is also my intent to run sterilization clinics at the Shelter with help from partner organisations in Allahabad to prevent future unwanted litters from being born and reduce the number of street dogs in the future.
Right now, the most immediate concern is that of our female cattle on the streets of Allahabad. Many are pregnant, and they MUST be brought to a place of safety where they can give birth, and not become yet another horrendous statistic in Allahabad's statistics of animals deaths on its roads. Every day so many young calves are seen on the roads fighting for survival.
It is vitally important a Cattle Shed is built as a priority, with a Charai for ease of feeding the cows & bulls during the day. The cattle shed will need to be equipped with cow mats, hay for bedding, fresh water to keep the animals healthy straw for bedding.
This is our graphic artists impression of how the Cattle Shed will look finished. As you can see, it will protect them from the terrible overhead heat of the sun during the Indian Sumer months, and provide much needed cover and warmth during the monsoon months and Winter. The Charai, or feeding troughs will run down the central part of the cattle shed and be easy to keep clean, the cows and bulls will all have commercial cow mats to stand on which protects feet and hooves on concrete floors and prevents damage to them, they also give purchase on the floors when coming in from the fields surrounding the shelter. My hope is that the shed will be large enough to facilitate a partitioned area for the pregnant & lactating mothers and calves in the long term too.
I will keep sharing our progress and milestones with you, your family and friends as we reach each target set and reached. With your help and support & the grace and will of God, I know it can be done.
The cost is not small - to build the Cattle Shed and equip it will cost approximately 8 Lakhs (£7,500/ $9,150 equivalent currencies).
Without you and your support, I will not succeed or achieve to build the Dream Shelter and be able to save countless lives. Animals will continue to be abused, neglected, left to die, attacked & poisoned every day on the streets of Allahabad.
I have a vet onboard already, I have used him & his clinic for several years, and once our Cattle Shed has been completed, we will then move onto the 2nd phase of our Shelter Build which will be the Dog & Cat Shelter, Kitchen, Treatment room, Staff room, storage areas etc.,
I am so happy to be able to share with you my vision of the living quarters for the rescued street cattle that I urgently need to bring to the Shelter, I really CANNOT STRESS enough the urgency of doing this! Some of the females are very heavily pregnant and will give birth within 1 month. Some are in very grave danger if we do not act quickly and get them to a place of safety!
Without you and your support, I will not succeed or achieve our Dream Shelter and be able to save countless lives. Animals will continue to be abused, neglected, attacked & left to die on the streets daily. With your help & support you can be the Dream Makers- give dogs, cats, goats, equines & cattle a life full of love & compassion they truly deserve. Can you do that please? Be a Dream Maker? No donation, no matter how small, makes a massive effect on our campaign and build!
Thank you, with love and prayers - Shristi and my 4 legged fur-babies xx
