Our friend Shouting needs our help! Classy House has been a stop on the housing train for so many of us (myself included!) as we've struggled with housing instability in Oakland, and its future is in peril. A housemate who's refused to pay rent for many months has recently turned violent and it's crucial to the safety of everyone living there that they are removed promptly and legally. Due to the complexity of the situation, Shouting needs to not only pay the back rent owed by this person but also utility bills and displacement costs for the household members in order to avoid eviction and/or a steep rent increase.

The amount that's being requested will be used to pay that back rent and square up with the utility companies so that the current housemates can focus on finding a new tenant once the violent one is gone. If it turns out that any excess funds become available after this fight is won, that money will be returned to the community in the form of a donation to a community organization dedicated to helping low income folks obtain needed legal services.
