As her kids would say she is one of the strongest women they know. While pregnant in 2010 with her son, Shonette complained to her OBGYN that she was having chest pains. and tired a lot.  After some testing it was discovered that she had developed high blood pressure.  She was given blood pressure meds, however the doctors did not look any further into the chest pains she was experiencing.  In 2011 as she was searching for a job and had gotten hired, she couldn't pass the physical due to something the doctors heard while listening to her heart.  Most doctors wrote it off as a heart mummer, she finally found a doctor that would listen and actual administer test. By the time the test results came back they showed her heart was very weak and a defibrillator had to be implanted as a precaution just in case her heart would stop it would start it back up.  Shonette's heart was only functioning  at 15%.  The right side of her heart had to do the work for both sides. Shonette is the mother of 2 biological kids and 4 bonus kids.  Despite her heart being weak her and her husband had 3 kids in the household and Shonette didn't miss a beat.  Her husband worked on the road for years so it was Shonette at home raising 3 kids while being sick, but still very active in all aspects of their lives.  She suffered from a mini stroke in 2012, but soon as she was out the hospital she was back to being a mother.  Doctors suggested it may be time for a heart transplant in 2014 but Shonette felt like the kids was to small for her to enter the OR so she continued to fight on without missing a beat as a wife, and mother.  She was hoping to hold on long enough for her kids to get older.  In 2015 she went back to work to help provide some extra income for her family.  Her favorite part of her jobs was working with kids with disabilities whom she considered "her Babies".  Some of the students were unable to walk, talk or feed themselves.  She knew if they could come to school smiling in their situation she could too.  Shonette suffered another mini stroke in June 2019 and begin to pass out on occasions but that didn't stop her.  She still pushed through and went back to work since she signed up to work summer school with her students that summer.  As 2020 approached Shonette could tell her heath was declining and had to stop working in February 2020.  As she was experiencing fluid building up in her body, it became harder to walk, and complete let alone begin everyday task ie washing  dishes, moping and even cooking.  As the months went on Shonette got weaker, in August she had to be hospitalized.  At that time she was informed that her kidneys and liver levels did not look good.   She couldn't stop throwing up and she knew it was time.   She called her Heart Doctor at the Mayo clinic and told them she was ready to be on the list, they moved quickly and after going through many test and appointments she was put on the list in January 2021.  Doctors told her that her heart was so weak she needed to be hospitalized until a heart becomes available.  Shonette entered the hospital on February 8th  2021.  Because of covid Shonette was allowed only one visitor so her kids were  not able to come visit which was hard on the entire family.  Shonette 's right side of her heart grew tried and couldn't continue the work load for both side. Shonette had received two offers for a heart while in the hospital only for them not to be the perfect match.  On February 23 the doctors had to preform surgery and insert a Extracorporeal Membrane oxygenation "ECMO" to give her heart a break.  Shonette's heart was days from giving up per the doctor.  On February 24 Shonette received her third offer for a new heart and went in to Surgery the morning of Feb 25.  Shonette received a heart in a box, which is now beating inside of her. While she is not the first person to receive a heart in a box, she is the first to receive an "ECMO" and then a heart in a box and the doctors are all amazed on how well she is doing.  So I'm ask  if you can find it in your heart to help my friend stay afloat and help her with hospital bills so she won't stress out her new heart. Her kids, family and  friends all need her. Shonette is a strong amazing women and I'm so proud of how far she has come.
