Help Shirley Flower Stay Comfortable
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Dana, and on behalf of my family, we are seeking help with care for my mom, Shirley Flower. She lived independently and had a bad fall, resulting in breaking her femur/hip. My mom had to have emergency surgery, and they placed a rod and two nails to stabilize her leg. After a week in the hospital, we have respected my mom’s decision to put her under the care of hospice. My mom made the request to be kept comfortable, as she was in intense pain, very weak, and unable to participate in physical therapy. What we didn’t realize is that her insurance won’t cover all the costs associated with that. We are hoping to be able to keep her in the Hospice Care Center which has a price tag of $250/day for room and board, since now her pain is managed and insurance isn’t covering her stay. We are able to bring her cat to visit her at the care center, which isn’t allowed at many of the nursing homes, and she absolutely loves getting to see him. At some point, we may have to move her into a nursing home, but we are having to see how she is day to day. Insurance doesn’t cover any of the nursing home stay either. We are hoping to get some help to be able to cover these costs. The family is doing all we can to help her, but we know it will take a village.
If you know my momma, you know the following: she loves all animals—would take in all the stray animals if she had the room for them, loves her family with all her heart and more, and would help anyone she could. She loves her cat, Sampson; also to cut up and have a good time, play cards and games, and you will always find her with a Coca-Cola.
If you feel led to help, please do. We will do everything we can to ensure she has all she needs and is as comfortable as can be. Thank you.
