Support Shirl While She Seeks Medical Diagnosis

Hi, I'm Kris Clark, and together with Laurie Marvin, we’re launching this page to raise funds to help our friend Shirl (Kohl) Martin.

Earlier this summer, Shirl started having mild cognitive impairment and physical medical problems. She began struggling with normal tasks at work and home. She's become unsteady on her feet, is prone to falling, and has extreme fatigue (at one point sleeping 12-18 hours per day). She’s having vision problems, including depth perception and bright lights, and has received three new eye prescriptions in the past year. She is unable to work right now and recently sold her car to reduce expenses. She needs help with living, medical, and travel expenses as she seeks answers for a medical diagnosis. Now it’s our turn to support someone who has helped many others.

For those who know Shirl, asking for help is HARD. Shirl started working as a teenager, supporting herself from a young age. She also has a BIG heart, and She is known for her fundraising efforts for others. She started fundraising as a child. Each Labor Day by roller skating for muscular dystrophy. She’s also raised funds for the American Cancer and Leukemia Society. She's run several marathons to raise funds in the past. She also coordinated several bus trips to Chicago, raising funds for various organizations, including the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony. She was a blood drive coordinator, increasing donations by 400%, and was a crisis response team member, supporting others in their time of need. She dreams of doing a fundraising event for children with learning disabilities and first responders!

Our friend Shirl has touched a LOT of lives with her fundraising, and her positive attitude and energy. She is a can-do person, who looks to help others first. But this time, she needs our help.
