Growing up, I never had a stable household. My parents’ instability meant I was passed from one home to another, always searching for a sense of belonging. That longing led me to join the military at 18, hoping to find camaraderie and a place to call home. My time in the service was challenging, and after nearly four years, I was medically discharged following a traumatic experience. I am now 100% combat service connected, which means I do receive a monthly income, but it’s just enough to get by from paycheck to paycheck.
Recently, a new leasing company bought my building and is trying to push all the tenants out. I was supposed to be out last week, but by the grace of God, I have until December 31. As a single woman living with psychological challenges from my service, my three emotional support cats are my lifeline—they get me out of bed every morning and give me a reason to keep going. I never imagined I’d be in a position where I’d have to ask for help, especially after working since I was 15 years old. But right now, I’m in a hospital bed, feeling hopeless and unable to do anything on my own.
I know times are tough for everyone, and I understand if you can’t help. But even a dollar could help me save something—maybe enough to board my cats while I find shelter. Thank you for reading my story and for any support you can offer. Happy holidays.
