Hi, I’m Clara Jane Plett, founder and director of Shining Star Health Center in Spanish Lookout, Belize. For 7 years, our holistic retreat has been a haven where God, nature, and compassionate care meet to restore health—body, mind, and spirit.
On May 6, 2025, a sudden mid-morning fire reduced our main building—and everything inside—to ashes. Thankfully, every staff member and guest escaped unharmed, but BZD $260,000 (about US $130,000; the Belize dollar is pegged 2:1 to the U.S. dollar) in specialized herbs, imported supplements, medical equipment, kitchen supplies, and much more was lost.
Despite the devastation, our mission burns brighter than ever. We refuse to let this setback silence the hope we bring to those battling fatigue, chronic pain, autoimmune diseases, and many other conditions. With your help, we will treat patients again within 60 days and rebuild a permanent, purpose-built center that serves Belize and the wider Caribbean for decades to come.
Our Two-Step Recovery Goal
- Temporary Clinic (60 days) – BZD $155,000 to rent and equip a safe space so treatments can resume quickly.
- Permanent Rebuild – BZD $520,000 to construct a new, fully outfitted holistic health center.
