Some folks have asked some questions so I am including some info on Shin! Shin is currently employed by the Steam House Lounge in Midtown. Shin DOES have some health insurance. But, with deductibles, limits and a non comprehensive coverage plan, his bills are going to be way more than he can handle. He went to the ER with a swollen leg and was told he had a blood clot (DVT) that required the removal of his Femoral artery, They replaced it with a synthetic artery. That got infected and they had to remove his leg half way between his thigh and his knee. He has been hospitalized for 3 weeks and will be out of work for at least 6 more. He is going to need help with bills as well. Both his parents have passed.
Shin is currently living with a friend an has several friends (one of them is my husband Dave) who have been helping when they can..(getting him to and from the hospital, moving clothes etc from hospital home and then to his new digs with another friend), A great deal of time is being spent with pain management and learning how to tackle life with one leg until he can get a prosthetic.
For as long as anyone has known him, Shin has been the kind of person who shows up—with a warm smile, a tireless work ethic, and a genuine passion for making people feel welcome. He has dedicated his entire career to hospitality, an industry that demands everything you have, and Shin has always given it gladly.
Recently, Shin faced a medical crisis that changed his life overnight. Due to a serious emergency, he had to undergo a leg amputation. This is a devastating turn of events for anyone, but especially for someone whose livelihood has always depended on being on his feet. The road ahead is long and expensive. Shin is now facing significant medical bills, the need for physical therapy, a prosthetic limb, and an inability to make his bill payments that keep piling up while he is unable to work.
Please help Shin regain his mobility and independence. Any contribution, no matter the size, makes a real difference. If you can share this page with your network, that is meaningful as well. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will also be reaching out to organizations that support amputees, such as Help Hope Live and Limbs For Life, to get him as much help as possible. If anyone has contacts at either of these organizations, please let me know.
