Dear Friends and Loved ones,

My name is Sandra, and I am the mother of Shim. I come to you with a heart full of faith and love, asking for your help during a time of unimaginable hardship for my beloved daughter. What began as an ordinary life full of adventure and nature has been drastically altered due to an unexpected and life-threatening illness.

For as long as I can remember, Shim has been an active, adventurous spirit who found peace and connection with God through nature. Hiking, meditating, and spending time outdoors weren’t just hobbies, they were her way of recharging, of feeling spiritually grounded. Every day, she would immerse herself in nature to reflect, pray, and connect with the Divine. It was her sanctuary, and it kept her centered and strong.

But everything changed in June 2024. Shim fell gravely ill with high fever, chills, fatigue, and body pains. After several visits to the emergency room, doctors struggled to diagnose the cause. Eventually, she learned that it was a mosquito-borne viral fever. Unfortunately, by the time the diagnosis was made, the virus had already wreaked havoc on her body. Her condition worsened, and she was hospitalized at Hartford Hospital, CT for 20 days, fighting for her life for almost over 5 times. She passed out multiple times, and there were moments when we feared we would lose her.

When she was discharged, she contracted COVID-19 from the hospital, further complicating her condition. She was eventually diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), which causes dizziness, fainting, and heart rate irregularities when standing. Along with POTS, she developed Autonomic Dysfunction, which affects her entire nervous system and disrupts vital bodily functions. This means that every system in her body, her heart, digestive system, and ability to regulate temperature, has been thrown into chaos. It is an incredibly serious condition that leaves her unable to function normally and requires full rest for recovery.

The physical toll of these illnesses has been devastating. Shim now requires a wheelchair and walker to move around and is unable to work or care for herself as she did before. She is also facing high medical bills, including ongoing hospital visits, specialist consultations, and physical therapy to help her regain mobility and independence. The physical therapy and rehabilitation needed for her recovery are intensive and costly, and the medical expenses continue to pile up.

As a mother, it is heartbreaking to watch my child struggle. But I know in my heart that this tragedy has happened for a reason. Shim believes with all her heart that this is a test, a test of faith, strength, and resilience. She believes she was meant to survive, to come out of this stronger, and to be a living testimony of what it means to endure suffering with grace and faith. One day, I know she will help others who are facing similar challenges.
