Dear Friends and Family,
Our family has found ourselves in a position where it is time to ask for help, although it is always a hard thing to do. This is in regards to our dearest Shiloh Tegue Plaster. Anyone that knows our girl knows that she is the most selfless, humble, compassionate, caring, and all-around beautiful human. Her humility is so strong that her story has been untold for years because she isn’t one to complain or to seek attention etc. With that being said, we would like to take it upon ourselves to share her story.
Since a young age, Shiloh has had extreme hip pain that years of traveling to different specialists could not find the answers to. In the last two years, she has undergone 5 arthroscopic failed hip surgeries out of UCSF of San Francisco. She also has been diagnosed with Femoral Acetabular Hip Impingement (FAI), which is an excess of bone growth to your femur and acetabulum that then causes damage to the joints, and Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which is a rare syndrome that is incurable and very underresearched or known. This has effects on a spectrum but in short, some causes can be extreme joint pain and dislocation as well as heart rate concerns with fainting spells and even digestive/skin issues. She is now being seen by Dr. Sink in New York who is a part of the Hospital for Special Surgery #1 in Orthopedics for the last 12 years and specializes in failed hip surgeries. He has finally found some possible answers that mean Shiloh will be getting 2 more surgeries on each of her hips. She will be getting a surgical hip dislocation where they will cut a large incision on the outside of her thigh and through her greater trochanter bone to then dislocate her hip following the placement of multiple large screws. With this surgery, she will be in the hospital for around 4 days and will be in a hotel for a week after so she doesn’t have to fly in between her 1-week post-op appointment. She will need to come back to New York for a 6-week, 3-month, and 6-month post-op appointment and if everything goes smoothly they will schedule the same surgery for her right hip. She is scheduled to get her left hip done on February 15th, 2022 and this will be her third travel across the country from California. As many of you know, flights, hotels, surgeries, surgery aftercare products, and medical bills are a nightmare to afford. Especially, as a 25-year-old who has been in and out of work as she is on her 6th surgery. We are seeking to relieve our dear Shiloh of some of the stress of finances if anyone is able to contribute. There are many more details to her story but it is a lot to read. Important to note is the bravery our Shiloh has shown to be on her 6th hip surgery across the country. She has never given up after years of being told nothing is wrong with her hips and she has persevered to where she is now. If we could relieve her of some of the stress of her journey with invisible chronic pain and pray that these next surgeries will be the answers our prayers will be answered.
Thank you for reading Shiloh’s story and if you feel inclined to help it would make all of the difference. We cannot thank everyone enough for the support.
