From Chris:
Three weeks ago, I got home and shibi couldn’t open her eyes. At the time I thought she had an allergic reaction so I took her to the emergency room to get checked out. Unfortunately, something much worse was wrong with her.
She was diagnosed with primary glaucoma. It’s a disease that’s common among pure bred dogs that is hereditary. The eyes swell up with pressure because fluid is suddenly blocked and cannot flow out of the eye. Shibi was sent home with several eye drops that did not help. Unfortunately she had to get her left eye removed due to the huge build up of pressure and damage that it had caused.
The veterinary said right eye looked fine for now. However, yesterday Shibi had to be taken to the emergency room because she could not open her remaining eye. She had a pressure spike in her right eye again and will need to be removed as well. Shibi is healthy overall and it is very unfortunate this hereditary disease has affected her.
Both surgeries and multiple ER visits have been paid out of pocket since Shibi does not have insurance. I’m asking my small group of friends and family to assist me in whatever donation they can to help with to alleviate the costs and help give shibi comfort.
We all appreciate your support during this challenging time and are hopeful that Shibi will be able to live a healthier and happier life even after her surgery.
