Friends: our girl Shey needs some help. Shey, who is always the first to cheer us on, send a kind note, or a text of love, was diagnosed late last year w/hypothyroidism, followed quickly by a diagnosis of Hashimoto’s Disease in the Spring.
If you know anything about either of these, you know that the symptoms are real ‘quality of life’ issues:
Exhaustion and extreme fatigue, joint stiffness and muscle pain and weakness, weight gain, memory problems/brain fog, depression, dry skin, puffy face and/or eyes.
In short, it sucks and makes just basic, daily functioning difficult. Anyone who knows Shey knows she’s full of joy, energy, artistic passion and a love of her friends. Having ZERO energy has been so difficult for someone of her personality type.

On top of all of that, Shey noticed some changes in her voice while performing this summer. It concerned her enough that she asked her doctor to look into it, but she had a hard time getting him to take her seriously. She pushed enough to finally get him to agree to a biopsy of some pesky nodes on the Thyroid…and sure enough, she was right. She has Thyroid cancer. Shey is scheduled for a surgery next Thursday, December 8. She will be hospitalized for 1 or 2 days and then she’ll have to do scans, blood work, and wait for staging. Once stage is known, and if there’s any indication of spread, she *may* have to do some radiation treatment; all of which would be in addition to the surveillance & testing that all cancer patients have to go through for years after diagnosis.

The surgeon is very hopeful that this is early stage and treatable.

Shey does have health insurance, but it’s not great. The Great American Story these days, sadly. Her insurance is NOT going to cover her hospital stay, but will cover her surgeon. Ridiculous.

I have started this Go Fund Me in the hopes that we can help her out with whatever that hospital stay ends up costing her out of pocket, and any other treatment, scans, testing she may need after.

I know it’s been a rough year and that the holidays are fast approaching, but any little bit you can spare will help Shey.

Let’s show her how much she is loved.

Thanks,

Jennifer
