Hi, my name is Sherry, and I was diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma when I was 29. I didn't let cancer stop me from seeking higher education. Soon after starting chemotherapy, I started a master's program in Bioinformatics at the University of Maine. Now, in the fall of 2025, I am only 2 classes away from finishing my degree.
Despite working part-time and budgeting carefully, unexpected expenses and tuition costs have made it difficult to cover the final semester.
Although the cancer is gone, I have medical complications that cause a lot of pain and fatigue. I've been on medical leave since April 2025, leaving me with no income for months. I've exhausted my savings and financial aid options, and I'm turning to this community for support.
Your donation will help me:
Pay for tuition and lab fees
But also, it will help me continue contributing to research in cancer genomics.
This isn't just about finishing a degree—it's about launching a career dedicated to making a difference in healthcare and scientific discovery. I've already worked on projects exploring gene dependencies in cancer datasets and visualizing biological data in creative ways. With your help, I can take this final step and begin applying my skills to real-world problems.
Even a small donation makes a big impact. If you're unable to give, sharing this campaign would mean the world to me.
Thank you for believing in education, science, and the power of community. Let's cross this finish line together.
With gratitude, Sherry
