My mother began the fight with breast cancer in 2018. She went to UF Shands for a lumpectomy and axillary node dissection. Then, in 2020, she had a routine follow-up PET/CT, which revealed extensive meta

atic di ase. She began on an oral agent which is keeping it to a minimum, but these drugs are not without side effects. In 2024, she had to leave her career as an RN after 40 years. There is a long wait for benefits and even longer for health insurance. She has exhausted her savings and is at risk of losing her home and car before receiving benefits in August 2026.
