Our neighbors, Sherri and George, are the kind of people you hope to live next door to.
For almost 30 years, they’ve been the kind of neighbors who show up without asking. The ones who check in, lend a hand, and treat the people around them like family. And that’s exactly how their relationship with the neighbors next-door grew over the past 30 years. It was built on trust, shared meals, helping hands and the kind of day-to-day kindness that turns neighbors into extended family. When a fire displaced that family, Sherri and George didn’t hesitate. They opened their home to help them get back on their feet, welcoming this family of three adults and their pets into their home.
There was no lease, no paperwork, just an act of generosity and the belief that people would do the right thing.
They never imagined it would turn into this.
What was meant to be temporary has now stretched into a 10-month ordeal. The individuals they helped are now refusing to leave. They have declined to relocate with their local family, refused to secure their own housing, and continue to occupy Sherri and George’s home with no intention of leaving voluntarily.
Sherri and George have been left with no choice but to pursue legal action just to remove them from the home.
This situation has taken a serious toll. They are now facing:
• Significant and ongoing legal fees
• Increasing court costs as the case continues
• Utilities and home expenses still in their name
• Loss of full use of their home
• Daily stress, disruption, and uncertainty
They acted out of kindness, and that kindness has been taken advantage of.
We are raising funds to help cover their legal fees and court costs so they can continue fighting to reclaim their home and move forward. Every contribution helps relieve the financial burden and brings them one step closer to resolution.
