Help Sherpa Kitchen rebuild

Hello to all of our incredible followers, friends, and customers.  It is with a heavy heart that we write this page, as never in our wildest dreams could we have imagined something like this would happen, especially after just getting our heads above water following the pandemic.

On Saturday morning, April 24, the unthinkable happened - Sherpa Kitchen caught on fire.  No one was at the restaurant at the time, as we spend Saturdays selling products at the farmer’s markets, and we are grateful for that, as no one was hurt.

Subash had finished at Gilbert market and was stopping by Sherpa Kitchen to pick up supplies for Uptown Market when he was greeted by police cars, fire trucks, and billowing smoke from his beloved restaurant.  Watching your hard work and love go up in flames is a nightmare we wouldn’t wish on anyone, and it impacts so many.  Our staff has worked tirelessly for over a year, building, shifting, adjusting, serving, prepping, cooking, and putting their all into seeing this passion project through, and this is a hit that strikes us all.

Now, here’s where it gets even more interesting…

After the fire was put out and the space was deemed safe for people to walk through, the fire inspector came to determine the cause.  It wasn’t faulty wiring, no one left the stove on, it was literally spontaneous combustion.  Of kitchen towels.

When clothes go in the dryer, static electricity can build up inside them.  This electricity, coupled with oil residue in the kitchen towels caused them to combust and subsequently started our kitchen on fire.  We still can’t really believe it.

We are so grateful no one was hurt and the damage is repairable, however, we are already hanging on by a thread after closing the dining portion of the restaurant due to COVID, and this unexpected disaster is threatening to knock the final wind out of us.

The restaurant will be unable to operate until repairs are made and the inspector clears us to move forward, so our staff will be out of work, we won’t be able to attend the farmer’s markets, and our products will not make it to Main St. Harvest shelves.  It has been a devastating hit and we are scrambling to recover as quickly as possible, but it is here that we ask for your help.

We are so grateful for everyone’s support. Many of you have followed us from the Everest Momo food truck, to dining at Sherpa Kitchen, to buying our take and make products from the farmer’s markets, and we cannot thank you enough!  It is because of you that we’ve been able to grow, and we want everyone to know just how much we appreciate them.

The process to rebuild is fairly complicated and involves a long order of operations, inspections, clean up crews, and restocking.  Any help is appreciated so very much.

Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts, we aren’t giving up and will push as hard as we can to regroup, and rebuild, and see Sherpa Kitchen shine again.

Sincerely,

Sherpa Kitchen
