On October 6th, I suffered a stroke that affected my entire left side, leaving me bedbound and unable to walk. I also broke a bone in my left ankle, which has made recovery even more challenging. My husband, Mike, has become my full-time caregiver, helping me with everything from daily needs to managing my medical care. Because my left hand and arm do not function well, I am unable to assist him, and we rely solely on our Social Security income, which barely covers our rent, utilities, and groceries.

One of the biggest challenges I face is managing wounds caused by inadequate medical supplies. As a larger woman, the diapers I use do not keep me dry, which has led to a large wound on my upper left thigh and the start of new wounds in other places. I am on blood thinners to prevent another stroke, so these wounds bleed heavily and require constant care. I have been trying to get a Pure Wick External Catheter system, which would help heal my wounds and prevent new ones from forming, but unfortunately, it is not covered by insurance. The cost of this system, along with shipping, is more than we can afford, and it would make a tremendous difference in my comfort and health.

After paying for medical supplies and other essentials, there is often little left for groceries, and we only qualify for a small amount of food assistance each month. Your support would help us purchase the Pure Wick system and ensure we have enough to eat while I continue my recovery.
