Help Shelley with medical expenses

Spende geschützt

My sister Shelley Kephart works as a home health care aid providing around the clock care for an amazing man who suffers from the late stages of dementia.  Shelley lovingly refers to him as Uncle Bob.

On Monday March 27th, Shelley never arrived at work. My sister had gone missing.   After a gut wrenching and frantic search that lasted over 4 hours, she was found a few blocks away from her destination, Uncle Bob's home (Thank you Peggy, Lucy and Daryl!  You saved my sisters life). She was in her car, in a parking lot.  An aneurysm ruptured in her brain causing a hemorrhagic stroke.  She was alive and technically awake.  However she was completely incapacitated and unable to call for help or use her phone.

My sister is by nature a very compassionate person towards others. When our mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer, my sister put her job on hold, moved in with my parents to assist in caring for our mom in the last months of her life.

When my puppers became ill, she was there though all the recovery.

Shelley is the kind of person who would share her last dollar with someone in need.  In an ironic twist of fate, my sister, the person who always thinks of others first and herself last is now in need of help.

She underwent neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota Hospital. Surgeons used 9 endovascular coils to stop the bleeding in her brain.  I can't speak highly enough about the miraculous skill and expertise of the surgeons and professionals at the U of M hospital. She spent 14 days in Neurology ICU and an additional 2 days in the Neurology wing.  She’s home now and continuing her recovery.

As an independent home care provider she has no disability benefits as a safety net. She’s been out of work for a month now. She has burned through what little savings she had. The medical bills and expenses are obviously astronomical.  What’s more immediate are the basic costs of everyday life that are no less an integral part of her recovery needs; such as rent, food and monthly bills.

We are all very confident that Shelley has a very good chance of a full or mostly full recovery.  However this will take several months.  We don’t know if it will take 2 months, 6 months or a year.  I’ve created this page to raise funds to help with her expenses so she can focus getting well without the looming fear of not making rent or not paying bills.  In all honesty I have not a clue how expensive this will turn out to be, but I know that my sister needs help. The goal amount may or may not be enough, there’s no way of telling.  The length of recovery is one of the unknowns that adds so much stress for all involved.

Please help my sister Shelley get to where she was going on March 27th.  Please help her get back to Uncle Bob's house.

We would be so very grateful for any amount you could possibly contribute.
