My name is Shelleigh, and I am raising funds to help cover the costs of a life-saving liver transplant. I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis, which has caused extensive damage to my liver and led to liver failure. This condition has made daily life extremely challenging. I am currently on disability and unable to work, and my failing liver causes high levels of ammonia in my blood, leading to confusion and forgetfulness. The ammonia buildup becomes toxic, and I am hospitalized about once every six weeks, often spending several days in the hospital each time. Earlier this year, I spent my birthday in the ICU on dialysis, and the doctors were unsure if I would survive due to multiorgan failure. I lost the ability to walk and needed physical therapy to regain my strength. After more than two years, I am finally in the evaluation process to get on the UNOS transplant list, which involves many tests and procedures to find a match for me. I have 16 procedures scheduled throughout the rest of the year, each with copays, and I cannot return to work until at least six months after the transplant.

My husband has been my saving grace throughout this journey, supporting me every step of the way. He will be taking time off work to care for me after the transplant, and I will be on medication for the rest of my life to reduce the risk of rejection. Once I complete the evaluation process, I will need to stay close to the hospital so I can be ready when a new liver becomes available. The process has been long and difficult, but I am hopeful that with a new liver, I can start to rebuild my life.
