Help Sheldon Recover – Support His Medical & Living Expenses

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for your support for our dear friend, Sheldon, who is currently hospitalized in critical condition due to cellulitis. What started as a seemingly minor infection quickly escalated, leading to serious complications. On Monday, Sheldon was not feeling well, but just pushed through and went to work, where his leg started hurting around 11 am. There was a small red spot starting on his ankle, he marked it to watch it. He made it about an hour more at work and decided to go home because he felt worse. Two hours later Seldon was in the ER and the cellulitis had spread to his knee, he was septic and in critical condition. Right now he is on 5 different antibiotics, antivirals and antifungals for the infection. The leg infection is responding to the antibiotics but making him very sick. His kidneys are failing. He has been throwing up constantly. He is throwing up blood now, getting bloody noses, and the kidney damage also caused kidney stones so he has blood in his urine and his hemoglobin is dropping fast. He may need to get a blood transfusion soon. The infection has spread all the way up to his stomach and into his lymphatic system. He needed aggressive fluids pushed through the IV, but his kidneys started failing and he has retained 30lbs of fluid in a few days. That has put a very dangerous amount of stress on his heart, he has an echo tomorrow to rule out endocarditis and check his heart. His lungs have filled with the fluid he is retaining and has caused severe pneumonia. He can’t breathe very well, he is on high amounts of oxygen, and has to get injections twice a day in his stomach for blood clots. He has to get labs drawn twice a day. He has had 3 or 4 CT scans, I lost count of the x-rays, and can’t take a deep breath. He is too weak to walk, his vitals are not good and are leaning towards heart issues. He has had over 50 rounds of IV antibiotics so far. With no end in sight yet, it is day by day. He is having terrible anxiety attacks because he has never been in the hospital and everything is new. We have him on anxiety medication to keep the panic attacks at bay, as they could cause a heart attack or stroke right now because of his weak, overworking heart. He may also have a bowel obstruction. It is day by day, minute by minute right now.

As many of you know, Sheldon is not just a friend—he is a noble and generous soul who has dedicated much of his life to the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). A true knight in both title and spirit, Sheldon has embodied the ideals of chivalry, honor, and camaraderie, even serving as the King of Northshield. His passion for history and community has brought joy to so many, whether through epic battles on the field or the wisdom he shares with others.

Beyond the SCA, Sheldon is also an avid Magic: The Gathering and Warhammer player, always ready to strategize, laugh, and create lasting memories with friends. Whether wielding a sword or a deck of cards, he brings the same dedication, kindness, and competitive spirit to everything he does. Now, as he faces this unexpected battle, it’s our turn to rally around him and support him in his time of need.

Why We Need Your Help

With Sheldon unable to work for several weeks, his family is struggling to cover both medical expenses and lost income. Last time he had cellulitis in his leg he needed 1 round of IV antibiotics, was sent home and was on oral antibiotic. He was out of work for two weeks. This time things are much more serious. While we remain hopeful for a full recovery, and soon, the road ahead is uncertain, and every bit of support can make a huge difference.
