Shelanda, my grandmother, has always been a pillar of strength and love in our family. In December 2024, she received an abnormal mammogram, which led to a series of tests and a biopsy. By February, we learned she had a malignant stage 2 carcinoma. She faced surgery in March 2025 and endured a very rough recovery, showing incredible resilience through it all.
Just as she was beginning to heal, Shelanda was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer in August. She underwent another surgery and a thyroid ablation procedure in September, both of which were intense and challenging. Even after these procedures, some cancerous cells remain in her throat, and she is now waiting for more labs and tests in April to determine the next steps. Throughout all of this, Shelanda has worked hard to maintain her mortgage and bills, but she is now three months behind and facing the threat of losing her home. The mortgage company, Village Capital Investments, has not allowed her to make partial payments, making the situation even more stressful.
