My name is Keri Thomas. My parents were married and built a life together for 35 years until my father's untimely passing. My parents both worked hard their entire lives saving up a nest egg for retirement. My father experienced significant challenges later in life with multiple sclerosis and cancer and he passed in 2018 leaving my mother a widow. Shortly after my father's passing, my mother, Sheila Sanford, placed her full trust in their longtime financial advisor who exploited her vulnerability and violated his fiduciary duty.
With promises of secure investments and financial stability, this advisor convinced my mother to invest in risky business ventures without properly informing her of the risks. The advisor misled her and assured her that such investments were standard for someone her age. He promised the investment would pay off and that she would just start seeing checks coming in.
While my mother received checks from him for a little while they suddenly stopped coming. The advisor's financial license has since expired, and he has vanished to Utah, leaving behind a trail of broken promises and unanswered calls. Other victims, including a second elderly widow, have also been harmed.
We need to find out the truth about where my mother's life savings went. To do this, we need your help. The funds we raise will be used to hire a private investigator and cover legal expenses as we fight to recover what was stolen. We have exhausted all avenues of reporting to government authorities, but it's clear that we will need legal intervention. It will be at least $10,000 to get started with a lawyer and determine the facts of the case.
My mother is devastated and embarrassed to ask for this kind of help and deeply regrets putting her trust in this advisor. Thank you for your generosity and compassion.
