Hi, my name is Shehani Herath. I’m 27 years old, living in Sri Lanka. I’m a mother and a full-time animal rescuer trying to care for over 20 rescued animals at my small shelter. I’ve poured my heart into this work, giving stray, abandoned, and injured animals a second chance at life. But today, I’m at a breaking point—and I need your help.
This GoFundMe has been kindly set up with the help of a dear friend from the UK, who saw how much I’m struggling and wanted to support me in reaching people who care.
Here’s what I’m facing right now:
• All 20 of my kennels have been damaged beyond use. The dogs have chewed through them due to stress and confinement. Now I have no secure place to keep them safe.
• I have two dedicated employees who care for the animals daily. But I haven’t been able to pay their salaries for two months. They’ve been patient and understanding, but they’re now struggling too and may have to leave.
• My electricity bills are overdue, and we risk losing power, which is essential for basic operations and the animals’ well-being.
• Vet bills are piling up, and I’m doing everything I can, but I simply can’t keep up with the growing costs.
• Some of the animals urgently need treatment, and it breaks my heart to not be able to give them the care they deserve.
I never thought I’d be in this position, asking for help. But I’m doing this for them—for the animals who have no one else. Every rupee, every pound, every dollar donated will go directly to:
• Rebuilding the kennels so the animals can have safe, secure shelter
• Paying my staff their much-needed salaries
• Covering overdue electricity and vet bills
• Providing urgent medical treatment for animals still suffering
Even the smallest donation can make a big difference. And if you’re unable to donate right now, please share this page—you might help me reach someone who can.
Thank you for reading my story. Thank you for believing in me and supporting this mission of love and compassion. From my heart and from all the animals I care for, thank you.
With love and hope,
Shehani Herath
