My name is Mama Naasira Ageela (72), and my husband, Gregory Joe
Bledsoe, is 73

We’ve written three vegan books and for the past nine years, operated the Spicy Tasty Vegan Institute in The Gambia. After nearly a decade of teaching vegan cuisine, we must return to San Francisco in January 2026, and our four-year-old Belgian Shepherd, Sheba, must come with us.

Sheba is family. She is our alarm system and protector—we’ve been
burglarized three times—and she provides essential emotional support for both of us. As a puppy, Sheba nearly died from parvo and survived against the odds after days of hospitalization and prayer. We cannot leave her behind.

If left in The Gambia, Sheba faces serious risks, including forced breeding or a life outdoors with little food or shelter. Finding her a safe home here is extremely unlikely

Our 10-year annuity that funded our books, tours, and school ended two years ago. We no longer have funds to cover Sheba’s required travel expenses, which include vaccines, testing, transport, and a mandatory 28-day quarantine in Washington, D.C., since The Gambia is classified as a high-risk rabies country. I also require minor surgery, and we are facing housing costs upon our return to San Francisco.

To thank donors, we will provide our Sheba Dog Food and Immune-Builder Concoction recipes. You can have the satisfaction of knowing having Sheba with us will help with our peace of mind so we can better continue to help others with plant-based education. Any donation or in-kind support helps bring this story to a happy ending in San Francisco.
