Help Shayne Recover After Emergency Heart Procedure
I’ve known Shayne for over 20 years. We’ve worked together at Amoeba Records, played music, shared a home as roommates, and remain close friends even though we don’t live in the same city anymore. I love this dude, and right now, he needs our help.
Recently, Shayne suffered a heart attack. Doctors performed an emergency procedure to place a stent in his left coronary artery—a life-saving intervention to open the blocked artery that caused his heart attack and restore blood flow to his heart.
This wasn’t a minor procedure. It required threading a catheter through his blood vessels to reach his heart. Now his body needs time to heal at the insertion site, and critically, he must take powerful blood thinners to prevent dangerous clots from forming in the stent.
Physical exertion, stress, and long hours sitting behind the wheel—exactly what driving for Uber and Lyft requires—could be dangerous during this recovery period and put his heart at serious risk. His cardiologist has been clear: he needs 4–6 weeks of rest to heal properly.
But here’s the problem: Shayne is a full-time Uber and Lyft driver with no paid sick leave, no disability benefits, and no savings to fall back on. He’s facing lost income, mounting medical bills, expensive prescription costs, and all the basic living expenses—rent, car insurance, utilities, food—that don’t stop just because he can’t work.
Without support, Shayne will have no choice but to return to work immediately after his procedure, putting his health and his life at further risk.
We are beyond grateful to everyone who has donated, shared, and sent kind messages. The response over the weekend have been overwhelming in the best way, and it’s been incredibly moving to see how many people care about Shayne.
Because of this amazing support, we’ve nearly reached our original goal already. As medical realities become clearer and recovery timelines remain uncertain, we’ve decided to increase the goal to $15,000 to ensure Shayne has enough support not only to heal, but to avoid rushing back to work out of financial necessity.
We’re now raising $15,000 to help cover:
Lost income during 6+ weeks of recovery: $8,000
Medical bills, follow-up care, and prescription medications: $3,500
Basic living expenses (rent, utilities, food): $2,000
GoFundMe processing fees: $1,500
Any additional funds will provide a crucial safety net for unexpected medical costs, extended recovery time, or ongoing care.
The goal of this fundraiser is to give Shayne the chance to heal properly. These funds will allow him to focus on his recovery, relieve the immediate stresses he faces, and remind him how much he is loved and cared for.
Please consider donating, any amount will make a real difference and show Shayne that his community has his back. (Those skateboard tricks aren’t going to film themselves, we need him healthy!)
Thank you for helping Shayne get through this.
