Help Finish Shayne’s Accessible Van Conversion
It’s a good news, bad news situation.
The good news: After being the victim of a hit-and-run accident on April 7th, Shayne was able to replace her totaled accessible van. Thanks to more insurance coverage than expected and the generous contributions of so many people through this GoFundMe, plus a lot of persistence, she now has a new van! Thank you to everyone for your support!(Photo posted!)
The bad news: The van isn’t fully adapted to Shayne’s needs yet. To drive independently and safely, she still needs several custom modifications, including updated steering controls and a system to secure her power chair inside the vehicle.
The cost of these essential modifications is approximately $15,000—and the steering of her new van must be freighted to California and back to get the work done by a certified mobility specialist. Shayne also had to finance a portion of the new van, so this additional cost is a heavy burden.
Let’s help Shayne finish what she started and give her the full independence she deserves.
Every donation goes directly toward making her van truly accessible—and truly hers.
Thank you so much for supporting Shayne and sharing her story.
On the morning of April 7th, Shayne was on her way to work—doing what she loves most: teaching and supporting her incredible students as a special education teacher. Her day took a devastating turn when she was the victim of a hit-and-run accident.
Shayne has cerebral palsy and uses a power wheelchair for mobility. She drove a wheelchair-accessible van that was specially modified to meet her needs. The accident totaled her van, and to make matters worse, the driver who hit her was uninsured.
A comparable replacement vehicle ranges from $50,000 to $90,000—far beyond what insurance will cover. Without reliable transportation, Shayne’s ability to get to work, appointments, and manage daily life has been deeply disrupted.
Despite everything she’s going through, Shayne remains determined. Her family is doing all they can to support her during this incredibly difficult time, but the cost of a new accessible van is more than they can cover alone.
Every contribution—big or small—will help Shayne regain her independence and return to the life she’s worked so hard to build.
Please donate if you're able, and help spread the word!
