Help Shayla and Maverick Overcome Medical Challenges

Donation protected
My name is Theresa and my daughter Shayla and her husband Fred had their son Maverick 13 weeks early. He is currently in the NICU at Children’s Hospital and is expected to be there until the end of July.
We made this fundraiser to help with extensive medical cost for both Shayla and Maverick, food, and gas for daily visits to the NICU.

Shayla was 27 weeks and having severe stomach and back pain. She was unable to keep anything down and after a couple trips to the er and getting no answers she was transferred to Barnes. They discovered her scar tissue from her first C-section had caused her intestines to attached to her uterus and they twisted themselves. She had to have bowel surgery to remove 4 ft of her bowels.
While in recovery from the surgery Maverick was not responding well and she was instantly rushed into a second surgery to have a c section to remove Maverick where the doctors were not sure either of them would make it through. Maverick was born 5/4/25 at 2lbs and 9.3 oz. He is strong and fighting everyday to get stronger. The nurses in the NICU are impressed with how he is doing daily and take such great care of him.
After about a week Shayla was released to come home. Within the first hour her incision was leaking after a couple hours it was leaking again. She made a trip back to the er where she was readmitted and preparing for another surgery.
She was found to have an infection in her pelvis from bowel spillage that occurred during the first surgery. The spillage was removed and she was sent back to recovery. Since then Shayla spent 11 days in the hospital on antibiotics trying to clear the infection. After 21 total days of being in a hospital, she was released and has been placed on a wound vac to close her incision. The wound vac should be on for about another month or so until her wound is about a centimeter wide and a centimeter deep. We appreciate any and all thoughts, prayers, and donations.
