Dear friends and followers,
I'm not one to ever ask for help so I'm reaching out to you today with a heavy heart, but also with immense gratitude for all the love and support you've shown me.
I have experienced a tough year and a half since being terminated from my job. I was wrongfully terminated by Starbucks for what they claim was me using a curse word. Several months later It was brought to my attention that there was a class action lawsuit against Starbucks for wrongful termination of partners due to age discrimination, (falsely accusing partners and making up all sorts of violations to fire partners 40yrs and over).
Shortly thereafter, I found out that they claimed that I was fired not because of a curse word, but because my presence was cruel and threatening, and that I had threatened the life of a partner where the partner feared for his life. As a POC, I did not take these allegations lightly.
I was not aware of these accusations until I was denied unemployment because of these allegations by the company. I won my case because the judge did not believe that any of what was said about me was true and agreed that this was a case of wrongful termination.
By the time I won the case I was already 9 months in without a job due to the fact that Starbucks labelled me un-hirable, making it very difficult to find employment. Starbucks was my employer for most of my adult life and the only reference on my resume, giving them full power over me ever being employed again.
From the time of my termination, I have had to live off my savings, and as a single mother putting my child through college on my own, putting food on the table and keeping a roof over my head, my savings started going fast. I never thought that at 56yrs old I would be starting everything over from scratch, in an economy and world hell bent on creating homelessness for their citizens, but here we are.
In full transparency, I'm facing a very difficult time. Due to the rising cost of living, my rent drastically increasing and my wrongful termination and age discrimination, the amount paid out from unemployment was only enough to get me by for a couple of extra months.
Despite my best efforts, I haven't been able to secure new employment yet, and my financial situation is becoming increasingly dire. That's why I'm reaching out to you now as a last resort. I've created this GoFundMe campaign in the hope that I can raise enough funds to keep a roof over my head until I can find new employment.
In my darkest hours I thought that maybe I could start something for myself as I waited for word from the countless companies I applied for, but to only be met with thanks but no thanks.
In September of 2022 I opened an Etsy shop. Even as I almost became a star seller, Etsy came with its own financial challenges due to its high seller fees.
So right now, I am currently selling most of my belongings and giving the rest to charity as I contemplate the possibility of becoming homeless and living out of my car.
I know that many of you are facing challenges of your own, and I don't take your contributions lightly. I promise to use the money responsibly and only for the bare necessities. I've been very committed to finding a job and getting back on my feet as soon as possible, so that I can pay it forward and help others who are struggling.
Please know that any amount you can contribute will make a difference. Whether it's $1 or $5, every little bit helps. And if you're not in a position to contribute financially, please share this campaign with your friends and family. Spreading the word is just as important as donating.
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for your love, support, and generosity. I'm grateful to have you in my corner as I navigate this difficult time.
