Shay is a strong and vibrant leader in our community who brings wonderful food and smiles to those who are lucky to have her in their life.
Shay not only feeds her community through her work at Zenger Farm as a Community Chef Fellow, but also works full-time as a family advocate for a social services organization in SE Portland. She has dedicated her life to uplifting and nourishing houseless folks and other marginalized families through cooking and advocacy.
After being diagnosed with Uterine Cancer just a month ago, she is undergoing a total hysterectomy to remove the cancer. This surgery will leave Shay with expensive medical bills and an inability to work for at least 2 months, with the total costs of the surgery and loss of income totaling around $6,000 for Shay.
In hopes of giving Shay the support she needs to focus on recovery and less on affording the costs of daily living, we are fundraising to support her and her family during this difficult time.
We love Shay and want her to get better so she can get back to doing what she loves, cooking food for her friends, family, and community.
Any donations beyond our goal will go towards the extra expenses associated with recovering from cancer.
