Hi, my name is Shay Gilsdorf, and I’m a mother to four amazing children—ages 15, 8, 3, and 1. I’m also a survivor of domestic violence, and I’m reaching out with a heart full of hope and courage as I build a safe, stable future for myself and my children.

After years of physical and mental abuse, I made the hardest and most necessary decision of my life: to leave for the safety of my children and myself. My husband is now in pretrial confinement at the brig, and I suddenly find myself alone for the first time in years—going from a full-time stay-at-home mom to the sole provider and protector of my family.

We are preparing to move across the country to Texas, where we can finally feel safe— far away from the trauma and close to a stronger support system and better opportunities— begin healing, and start over. But this transition and the cost of relocating and starting fresh is overwhelming, and I cannot do it alone..
