Supporting my brother through a difficult season to recovery after sepsis.
Hi everyone,
My name is Casey Barker. I live in Lexington, KY, and I’m reaching out with a humble heart to ask for support for two of the strongest people I know, my mother and my brother, Shay. Many of you have reached out asking how you can help and I wanted to inform you on some ways that would be helpful to us.
When Shay was just 18 years old, his life changed forever after becoming paralyzed from a car accident. He is now 48, and for the past 30 years, my mother, now 73, has been his caregiver. She has devoted most of her life to making sure he is safe, cared for, and supported in every way possible. Her love and commitment are truly unwavering.
Recently, Shay has been diagnosed with chronic osteomyelitis and sepsis, and is struggling significantly recently with medical complications more than ever. He has been in an out of the hospital the last year several times with severe infections, most recently a 2 week stay at UK due to sepsis which landed him in ICU. He is back home but there is a significant need to assist him with being able to stay in his home comfortably along with my mother’s help.
I am starting this fundraiser to help relieve some of the burden and get him the proper care and equipment that is needed to make his quality of life somewhat bearable. My goal is to ensure they have what they need without the constant stress of wondering how they’ll pay for it all. I will personally be managing the funds and making sure every dollar goes directly toward extra care, appointments, medical supplies and equipment upgrades, transportation costs, and other daily living needs.
If you’re able to donate, share, or send a prayer their way, it would mean more than words can express. Your kindness and generosity will directly impact their quality of life and bring them much-needed relief during this challenging time.
Thank you for taking the time to read, share, and support in any way you can. We are truly grateful.
With love and gratitude,
Casey Barker
