Help My Husband Breathe Again – Support His Double Lung Transplant

Dear friends, family, and compassionate supporters,

My name is Vicky, and I’m writing with a heart full of hope and urgency.

My husband, Shawn Short, is 55 years old and has been fighting to breathe for the past 18 years. After nearly two decades of managing a progressive lung disease, he’s now facing the most critical moment of his life: he has been approved for a double lung transplant.

This transplant is our miracle — the chance to give him his life back — but we can’t face the road ahead alone.

We’re asking for your help to raise $8,000 to cover the essential costs that come with this life-saving surgery, including:

• money for traveling to and from appointments

Shawn is the kind of person who brings light into every room. He’s always been the first to lend a hand, share a joke, or quietly make sure everyone else is okay — even while quietly fighting his own battle. Before his illness progressed, he loved working with his hands,working on cars, being outdoors, and most of all, being an incredible husband/father/grandfather and friend. For years, I’ve watched him struggle with even the simplest tasks — walking across the room, taking a shower, or climbing the stairs — all while tethered to oxygen. It’s been heartbreaking. But now, there’s hope. The transplant could happen at any moment. Once the call comes, we’ll need to act fast, and recovery will require intensive care, and a long healing journey.

We are overwhelmed by both the opportunity and the cost — and we are turning to you, our community, to help lift some of this burden.
